Know Before You Go: Using Networked Ocean Observing Data Plan to Make a Safe TripRachel Wold
Rachel Wold grew up boating and fishing recreationally throughout the Pacific Northwest. As a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, she taught navigation courses and participated in safety cruises in the Puget Sound. She has worked as crew aboard private boats and yacht charters, logging time at the helm and navigating through the Inside Passage. Rachel studied physics at the University of Washington and now works as an oceanographer at the University of Washington Applied Physics Laboratory. She has led research cruises to monitor water quality and participated in oceanographic buoy deployment, recovery and maintenance. Combining her boating and science backgrounds, she currently is an Outreach Specialist for the Northwest Association of Networked Ocean Observing Systems (NANOOS; www.nanoos.org), demonstrating the NANOOS Visualization System (NVS) Boaters App with recreational boaters throughout the region and collecting feedback to enhance usability.
